LINUX-BASED VIDEOGAME SYSTEM SCRAPPED

Article Abstract:

Indrema has ceased operations, canceling plans to roll out a Linux-based computer game system. According to company representatives, the firm had failed to attract subsequent-round funding to support continued operation. Indrema CEO Gerard Klauer said that although consumer interest in the proposed gaming platform remained high, financial markets were turning down most requests for funding in the troubled technology sector. current efforts are underway to determine what parts of the company's intellectual property may be salvaged and sold to other companies.

NINTENDO FRUSTRATES RETAILERS WITH NEW MARGIN PLAN

Article Abstract:

Nintendo America Inc is implementing a new pricing and profit structure with the release of Game Boy Advance which has retailers upset. The new plan will offer liitle profit to retailers on GBA first party software. Then there would be a margin rebate later in the year. 3rd party publishers are also angry because royalty costs would force them to be at a higher price point and give them a disadvantage on the shelves.

GDC ALIVE WITH NEXT-GEN BUZZ

Article Abstract:

The Microsoft Xbox grabbed most of the attention at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose this year. Microsoft announced that the console would be supported by 12-20 titles at first but another wave of software titles would be available by the holiday season. Also discussed was the company's plans for marketing the Xbox and some licensing agreements made for product development.
