William Martin

Article Abstract:

William Martin became the first paid president of the New York Stock Exchange at the age of 31. He became head of the Federal Reserve Board in 1951, holding this position for 19 years. His term at the Federal Reserve included the longest period of economic growth in the US, from 1961 to 1969. On leaving the Federal Reserve, he went into private business. He had a sense of humility that some people found attractive but others regarded as weakness.
