Multiplex PCR assay for detection of Vibrio vulnificus biotype 2 and simultaneous discrimination of serovar E strains

Article Abstract:

A biotyping procedure based on a PCR assay is developed that might simplify the identification of the Vibrio vulnificus BT2 fish pathogen and also allow for the discrimination of those isolates with human pathogenic potential (SerE). The PCR assay has allowed the identification of two new biotype 2 (BT2) serovar E human isolates from culture collections, thus clarifying the status of BT2 as a human pathogen.

Identification of DNA sequences specific for Vibrio vulnificus biotype 2 strains by suppression subtractive hybridization

Article Abstract:

The genomic DNA of a biotype 2 serovar E isolate (tester) is compared with the genomic DNAs of three biotype 1 strains by suppression subtractive hybridization and then tested the distribution of the tester-specific DNA sequences in a wide collection of bacterial strains. The main objective is to identify Vibrio vulnificus biotype 2-specific DNA sequences by suppression subtractive hybridization.

Protocol for specific isolation of virulent strains of vibrio vulnificus serovar E (Biotype 2) from environmental samples

Article Abstract:

A new two-step protocol for the specific isolation of VSE strains from asymptomatic eel carriers and water samples is developed. The conclusion states that this new protocol is a suitable method for the isolation of VSE strains from environmental samples and is recommended for epidemiological studies of the pathogenic serovar E.
