Real-time PCR for detection and quantification of the protistan parasite Perkinsus marinus in environmental waters

Article Abstract:

A real-time PCR assay developed to detect and quantify Perkinsus marinus in environmental water samples is discussed. Results show that the tissue kit is preferred for extracting DNA from infected oysters, as no inhibitory effect was observed when P. marinus DNA was used to spike Crassostrea virginica DNA extracted with the tissue kit.

Rapid differentiation and in situ detection of 16 sourdough Lactobacillus species by multiplex PCR

Article Abstract:

A two-step multiplex PCR-based method was designed for the rapid detection of 16 species of lactobacilli commonly present in sourdough. The combination of this newly developed, quick bacterial DNA extraction method from sourdough and multiplex assay allows the rapid in situ detection of several sourdough-associated lactobacilli.

Combination of multiplex PCR and PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis for monitoring common sourdough-associated Lactobacillus species

Article Abstract:

A combination of denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and a multiplex PCR approach is used to detect sourdough lactobacilli. DGGE profiles obtained from Lactobacillus type strains have acted as standards to analyze lactobacilli from four regional Abruzzo (central Italy) sourdoughs.
