A hierarchical decision support system for production planning (with case study)

Article Abstract:

A Decision Support System for Hierarchical Production Planning (HDSS) was created to expedite the production planning task for end-users by offering a handy device which entails aggressive planning methods at all planning levels. The end-user can study the plan interactively with the Decision Support System device while profiting from the algorithmic elements of the system. HDSS results in capacity-feasible material acquisition and manufacturing plans because it allows capacity-feasible Master Production Schedules.

Hybrid heuristics for the capacitated lot sizing and loading problem with setup times and overtime decisions

Article Abstract:

The hybrid search heuristic GATA covering genetic algorithms (GA), simulated annealing (SA) and tabu search (TS) developed for a complex production planning problem that includes loading and lot sizing decisions, indicates the efficiency of compu-search methods. However, empirical results indicate that a stand-alone GA and a stand-alone TS/SA method cannot adequately solve the problem. GATA yields interesting outcomes and may be utilized to handle other NP-hard problems in production planning and control.

Heuristic and exact methods for the cutting sequencing problem

Article Abstract:

A new mathematical model and a three-phase method for cutting sequencing problem performed better than Yuen's heuristics given a little boost in computational effort. The optimum number of stacks produced is almost similar to the optimal value generated by a powerful algorithm that solves problems with up to 40 patterns and consumes almost a day in the worst situation.
