AUSTRIA: NEW WIND TUNNEL FOR TRAINS

Article Abstract:

A modern wind tunnel is to be built in Vienna, Austria for Sch 820mn. Engineering orders have been placed with Canadian Aiolos and the Austrian firms VA Tech Voest MCE and VA Tech Elin EBG. The wind tunnel is to be put into operation in 2002. It is to be used mainly in the testing of rolling stock. The project is to be financed by the city, the state, the ERP fund, bank loans and a railway infrastructure financing company in the context of a public-private-partnership. The wind tunnel is to be operated by Railtec Arsenal, joint venture of Arsenal Research and several rolling stock manufacturers.

AUSTRIA: NEW BUILDINGS FOR VIENNA TRADE FAIR

Article Abstract:

The city of Vienna is spending Sch 2bn on the construction of new facilities for the Wiener Messe exhibition centre, which will be run by the Anglo-Dutch Reed group. Beside paying rent for the buildings, Vienna will get from Reed a certain proportion of turnover. Two new exhibition halls will be built by the autumn of 2003 and after that another hall and a congress centre.

AUSTRIA: LOSSES FOR IFE

Article Abstract:

IFE reports an adverse development of the bus door division in year 2000. The company made a loss for the year of Sch 60.7mn, compared with a profit of Sch 1.9mn in 1999. Knorr-Bremse of Germany has raised its stake in IFE from 50% to 75%.
