AUSTRIA: RIGIPS EYEING RHI DIVISION

Article Abstract:

Managing director Heinz Ramsauer says that Rigips is in talks with a number of insulation material makers about a takeover. The Austrian company aims to become one of the leaders in this market. Beside RHI, which sells insulation materials under the Heraklith label, Rigips is negotiating with other insulation material makers, which are stronger than Heraklith on the German market. While the Austrian market is stagnating, Rigips is generating growth with exports to the Balkan region, Hungary and southern Germany. For year 2000 the company expects a 14% increase in turnover to about Sch 2bn. Rigips is investing Sch 220mn in its Puchberg mill in Austria.

In Austria, Constantia group aims to exploit synergies and reach international dimensions by intensifying cooperation between two of its subsidiaries. Funder Industrie is a producer of fibreboard and laminated chipboard, and Isovolta a producer of plastic boards, kitchen table tops, window sills and cabinet front elements. The two companies, which claim market leadership in the specialist timber trade, are to cooperate in production and develop a common product range. Moreover, they have set up a joint venture marketing company called Funder-Max-Handel GmbH.
