GERMANY/GUATEMALA: AUSTRIA HAUSTECHNIK EXPANDS

Article Abstract:

Austria Haustechnik AG (AHT), which is the world's leading producer of ice-cream refrigerators, is expanding regionally and in product terms by acquiring majority stakes in two companies in Guatemala and Germany. AHT gets access to the South, Central and North American markets through its 50% plus one share stake in Refco S.A. The Guatemalan company is the biggest producer of bottle refrigerators in Central America. It generates an annual turnover of about Sch 200mn. The clients include Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola. By mid-2000 the company is to build a production plant for ice-cream refrigerators for up to US$ 3.5mn. It will serve Unilever and Nestle. In Germany, AHT acquired 51% of the stock of KWR Kuhlmobelwerk Limburg. The German company supplies chilled cabinets and refrigerators to the retail trade. It generates an annual turnover of about Sch 170mn and writes black figures. AHT has the option to raise its stake in both Refco and KWR. It has given up plans to set up a production plant in Poland.

AUSTRIA/UK: FACC WINS ROLLS-ROYCE CONTRACT

Article Abstract:

The world's second-biggest aero engine manufacturer, Rolls-Royce has signed a cooperation agreement with Austrian Ried-based Fischer Advanced Composite Components AG (FACC) that is worth about US$ 100mn over a 5-year period. FACC will take over the supply chain management of the British company and develop and produce aero engine components. Until now the production of the components has taken place at Rolls-Royce's factory in Derby, for which FACC is paying a less than Sch 500mn. Rolls-Royce is reducing the share of parts produced within the company from 35% to 25% in 2001. Beside FACC, another four Austrian companies will benefit from this. FACC expects a 20% to 25% increase in turnover to Sch 1.3bn in the financial year to the end of February 2002. In 2000/2001 it grew 25% to Sch 1bn. The company spends about 5% of turnover on research and development.

AUSTRIA/UK: ANDRITZ BECOMES WORLD LEADER

Article Abstract:

Andritz AG of Austria raises its annual turnover in animal feed technology to more than EUR 100mn and becomes the world leader by taking over United Milling Technology. UMT, the animal feed technology subsidiary of Tate & Lyle generates an annual turnover of about EUR 35mn.
