China's unification train chuffs on

Article Abstract:

Macau has been returned to China by Portugal, and there are similarities with the handover of Hong Kong. Portugal had leased Macau, however, and had offered it back to China on two previous occasions, but China refused. Chinese approval for major decisions was needed in Macau, and there was no great change foreseen with the handover. China is more determined to include Taiwan as part of China, and the US may be less prepared to defend Taiwan. Chinese military forces are also being strengthened. There is little support in Taiwan for unification with China.

Now for the rest of the banquet: Taiwan

Article Abstract:

Many see China's takeover of Hong Kong as simply a prelude to the takeover of Taiwan. However, there are also indications that such a takeover would not be an easy one for China. Taiwan does have 100 miles of sea between it and China, and it is counting on the support of other democratic nations.
