Coalition may split as some fan fears of 'Islamic state'

Article Abstract:

The opposition coalition party in Malaysia, made up of the Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS) and the Democratic Action Party (DAP), is threatening to split over PAS's hopes of creating an Islamic state in Malaysia. The DAP is losing support because of its links to PAS in part due to the recent arrest of eight PAS members who are alleged to belong to a militant, radical Islamic cult with ties to the Taliban government in Afganistan. The ruling party in Indonesia is thought to be undermining support for the opposition party by giving media attention to national security concerns.

The Burmese Junta's decision

Article Abstract:

Though rumors of the ruling party in Myanmar, the State Peace and Development Council, holding discussions with the National League for Democracy leaders, including Aung San Suu Kyi, were welcomed by exiles, now most of them doubt the discussions will come to fruition. The international community seems to think that the ruling party is slowing making changes and improving its human rights violations, but around 1,800 political prisoners are still in jail and those who have been released are still monitored closely and are not permitted to participate in political activities.
