Sara Lee Corp. has reached a deal to acquire Earthgrains Co. for approximately $1.71 billion (2.01 billion euros) in cash. Sara Lee is offering $40.25 per share for all of Earthgrains' outstanding stock.

Delhaize to acquire U.S. grocery chain in 3.4 billion euros deal

Article Abstract:

Delhaize "Le Lion" SA has reached an agreement to acquire Hannaford Brothers Co. for $3.6 billion (3.4 billion euros). Delhaize is a division of Food Lion Inc. Hannaford is a medium-sized grocer that is based in the northeastern part of the US. The acquisition will mean a major expansion of Delhaize's presence in the US marketplace. The unit will become the sixth-ranked food retailer in the US.
