Article Abstract:

In 1994, the French furniture output was valued at an estimated 51.5 billion French Francs (FFr), excluding tax. Production has declined slightly and consumption has levelled out at FFr67 billion. Meanwhile, production of furnishing fabrics and floor coverings rose significantly, with fabrics up 11%. Carpets and vinyls rose 13% each and parquets were up 18%. An overview of the markets for furniture and furnishings is given, including details of foreign trade, consumption, and forecasts for the future.

Article Abstract:

In 1996, sales of furniture in Belgium totalled 77.9 billion Belgian Francs (BFr), representing a drop of 2.7% in 1995. The decline is attributed to falling sales of wooden furniture, which together with upholstered furniture make up 90% of total sales. Carpet output remained stable, while production of furnishing fabrics rose 6.8%. An overview of market trends is given, including forecasts for the future.
