New developments in part-time MBA education

Article Abstract:

An examination of new developments in part-time education programs for a master in business administration (MBA) reveals both advantages and alternatives of these evolving programs. Full-time MBA programs offer the shorter time advantage, but part-time programs offer the benefits of flexibility and lower costs. While it can be argued that part-time education is equivalent, although different, from full-time, employers must develop more supportive attitudes to part-time students. A wide variety of formats and quality for MBA training exists, and while the future is hard to predict, the development of flexible distance-learning MBAs will add to a broad range of MBA program alternatives.

What the boom in part-time work means for management

Article Abstract:

The growing use of part-time workers is attracting the attention of employers, governments, unions and international organizations, all of which are interested in the social, political and economic ramifications of the trend. Among the questions being asked are how shifts should be managed, whether to encourage full-time employees to become part time, and how to define part-time work. The reasons for the increase in part-time employment, including the growing number of women workers, are discussed, and government restrictions being enforced to accommodate the part-time work force are described.
