President-elect Bill Clinton has pledged to end with the military's ban on gays, but some prominent advisers are urging him to renege on his commitment. The arguments that those opposed to gay soldiers make are no different from those once made against racial integration.

The possible cuts: defence spending

Article Abstract:

The Clinton administration's proposed $274 billion US defense budget for FY 1994 does contain some real cuts, but further cuts are expected to be put forward after the administration finishes its military policy review. Many large weapons programs will be cut eventually.
