Still living

Article Abstract:

Bank stock prices are starting to recover as investors' fears are eased. Investors have been concerned about banks' exposure to emerging markets, the impact of recession on banks, and the exposure to risk of commercial banks involved in investment banking. Banks from rich countries may be affected by emerging market losses and bad debts in a recession, but they are strong enough to withstand this, as well as problems with their investment banking activities. Banks may also benefit from rises in value of their government bond portfolios.

Article Abstract:

There have been debates on central bank independence and whether this is linked to low inflation. One problem is that definitions of independence may vary, so comparisons cannot easily be made, as has been noted by Oxford University's James Forder. It is also unclear whether any link that there may be between central bank independence and low inflation is due to a causal link, or whether there is simply a correlation between the two due to an additional factor that may not be immediately apparent.
