Investment still flows to Southeast Asia despite volatility

Article Abstract:

Japanese manufacturers are still keen on investing in Southeast Asia despite the currency crisis prevailing over the region. Japanese investors believe that business opportunities in Southeast Asia remain attractive and that high consumer spending will remain high. Exports are also expected to surge brought about by devaluation of currencies. Some of the Japanese manufacturers planning to invest in the region include Nippon Piston Ring Co and Kaneka Corp.

Pros stick to the beaten path in picking toll-road plays

Article Abstract:

Companies investing in toll road projects should look at the traffic growth potential of the area and the company's ability to negotiate toll-rate increases. Road projects located in more populated or more economically-active areas will likely generate more revenues. One particular road project is the Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway being developed by Zhejiang Expressway. The road links norhteastern Zhejiang province with booming Shanghai.
