Officials castigate decision on MCP

Article Abstract:

Philip S. Schaengold, Tenet Health Corp.'s vice president for operations in Pennsylvania was grilled by several City Council members about the company's decision to close the 153-year-old MCP hospital. The council members questioned Tenet's authority of asking the city or state for funds to bail it out of crisis and also inquired whether a proper buyer could be found so as to delay the closure of the hospital.

Exton firm to cut jobs by 100 and revise focus

ViroPharma Inc., a small Exton company announced that it was cutting its workforce by 70 percent to focus on commercializing later-stage products. ViroPharma states that it would conserve cash for those products that have had more advanced testing and could reach the market sooner and would halt early-stage drug-discovery research and development.

US Airways to upgrade baggage handling

Article Abstract:

The US Airways announced on spending $2.7 million to upgrade its baggage-handling capabilities at Philadelphia International Airport. The airways plans to begin construction in March 2004, for improvements of domestic and international baggage handling capabilities in Terminals B and C, and the international terminal.
