India aims to become the main bioinformatics hub

Article Abstract:

India announced on June 9 that it is planning to work hard in information technology (IT) and biotechnology to build first Biotech-IT Park and position it as a global hub for bioinformatics. The main challenge for the Indian bioinformatics companies is to create proprietary products that would generate high-margin revenues and contributing to the economic growth of the country.

The biotech field in Asia-Pacific is progressing faster than Europe and may pose severe competition to the US biotech sector. According to the report of Ernst and Young, the Asia-Pacific biotech industry has advanced substantially in 2003 but this growth is not uniform all over, as Australia is developed whilst India and China are developing.
