Online site spurs Meteor growth

Troy, MI-based Meteor Photo and Imaging Co. decided to conduct a two-year feasibility study before committing itself to establishing a presence in the World Wide Web (WWW). The company sought to understand the potential cost-savings and customer benefits of WWW. It saw the cost-saving potential of the service as a internal communications system. The company then discovered that the WWW can help expand its customer reach since a growing number of its clients have become experienced WWW users.

BellSouth edges out AT&T, while US West trails

Article Abstract:

A panel of 55 business users was asked to identify the telecommunications company they would order primary-rate digital ISDN service from based on the providers' Web sites. BellSouth emerged as the leading choice of the respondents, edging out AT&T and US West. Those who selected BellSouth praised the company's site for its uncluttered graphics and quality search engine, which made it easy to use. However, it was also criticized for lacking enough data.

Both sectors experienced significant growth in size and variety resulting from the emergence of niches and opportunities for more products and services. For example, Pointcast, an online information company, now incorporates premium paid content into data and develops online 'channels' for vertical industries.
