Women face prejudice in firms

Article Abstract:

Recent academic research conducted by Rhoda Pierce-Brown and Connie Richardson of De Montfort University reveals that women accountants in the UK have less favorable salary and promotion prospects than their male counterparts. The results of the study, which involved 265 male and female accountants with similar educational backgrounds, show that the salary gap between the groups increase with age. The average salaries of male accountants are found to be about 2,800 pounds sterling higher than those of their female colleagues while both are in their 20s, about 8,070 pounds higher in their 30s and a staggering 24,180 pounds higher in their 40s. The findings also reveal that 25% of the men in the study were directors or partners, while only 13% of the women have reached those positions.
