A new hydrogen production facility is to be built by Westfalen Chemie GmbH & Co KG, a Salzbergen-based 50:50 joint venture of SRS Schmierstoffraffinerie Salzbergen GmbH and Westfalen AG of Munster. From spring 2001 the plant will supply hydrogen primarily to the metal and chemical industries.

In 1999, Clariant AG is to increase the capacity of the Azo IV plant in Frankfurt from 5,500 t to 6,500 t of organic azo pigments. Azo IV produces pigments on seven automated production lines. With a turnover of DM 2.2bn, it is the world market leader in its market segment.
