Thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of lytropic solvation-induced transitions in phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine assemblies revealed by humidity titration calorimetry

Article Abstract:

The study has characterized the hydration of a phosphatidylethanolamine and of a phosphatidylcholine, which undergoes a lyotropic solvation-induced transition in the immediate range of relative humidity at room temperature. The kinetics of adsorption processes with high resolution at any value of water activities has made this method superior to other approaches of dynamic hydration experiments.

Structures aspects of lyotropic solvation-induced transitions in phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine assemblies revealed by infrared spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The structure and interactions of phosphatidylethnolamine and phosphatidycholine headgroups in aggregates of selected unsaturated lipids is presented. At low water activities the headgroups of both investigated lipids tend to orient preferentially parallel with respect to the polar interface as revealed by infrared linear-dichroism data.

Star defects, Boojums, and cardiod droplets shapes in condensed dimyristoylphosphatidylethanolamine monolayers

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to investigate the inner texture and equilibrium droplet shapes in condensed monolayers of the chiral phospholipid by Brewster angle microscopy (BAM). BAM image analysis shows that the texture is consistent with a clockwise bend configuration of the c-director, reflecting the chiral nature of the compound.
