Teaming up for PV blues

Article Abstract:

The Palos Verdes blue butterfly, or Glaucopsyche lygdamus palosverdesenis, was deemed extinct in 1982 but rediscovered in San Pedro, Los Angeles County in 1994. The butterfly was threatened by a military fuel project, but a team effort has achieved a successful conservation program. The effort involves the Fish and Wildlife Service, Southwest Naval Facilities Division, and volunteer groups such as Rhapsody in Green and LA Clean and Green. The habitat has been enlarged and butterflies have been bred in captivity.

Color Coding the Mail

Article Abstract:

Mail pertaining to accounts, inventory, and payroll from 200 stores arrives three times a week at the mailroom of Target Stores' headquarters in Minneapolis. To streamline the sorting of the mail at headquarters, the stores separate their outgoing mail into four categories. Each category is mailed to the home office in separate nylon color-coded envelopes called Trans-Sacs. Mail is now distributed twenty per cent faster.
