Sonoco shifts its outsourcing scale

Article Abstract:

International packaging materials manufacturer Sonoco Products Co has opted to outsource its information technology (IT) support services functions to Rye Brook, NY-based Entex Information Services. Entex' services will also cover centralized help-desk and problem management activities. Sonoco VP/CIO Bernie Campbell said the decision was made because of difficulties it was having in providing internal IT support services and contracting with vendors on a materials and time basis for IT support.

Dell adds two new providers to program

Article Abstract:

Austin, TX-based Dell Computer Corp has added Dayton, OH-based NCR Corp and Frazer, PA-based DecisionOne Corp to its list of main service providers. NCR and DesicionOne will join Dallas, TX-based BancTec Inc as Dell's support providers in the US. Dells service providers for global accounts are Wang Global and Unisys Corp. NCR will provide support for Dell's customers in the retail and finance industries, while DecisionOne will handle cutomers in the education sector.

Hitachi recruiting partners to service laptops

Article Abstract:

Hitachi PC Corp of San Jose, CA, is seeking for companies to become partners in its Authorized Service Provider program. The company said the potential partners will be tapped for third-party repairs of its line of notebook computers. The services provides will be authorized to provide servuce and equipped with parts provided at a discount from the company. The program will enable Hitachi to provide local service throughout the US and Canada.
