Cost study

Article Abstract:

Architectural firm S&P was responsible for designing a community swimming pool and health suite in Basingstoke, England, for Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. The facility, completed in Apr 1998 after a 56 week construction period, cost 1,545 pounds sterling per sq mt. A key feature is the high hipped roof, with smaller hipped or gabled bays at lower levels. Ceramic tiling and textured facing blockwork have been used for internal finishes within the pool, while two artists have produced two large stained-glass windows.

Cost study

Article Abstract:

Construction projects can be kept in budget if managers stick to the basic principles governing costs. A fire at Boots The Chemists' Nottingham-based warehouse meant a new warehouse had to be constructed and operational within 11 months. The project was given a budget of 33 million pounds sterling, with construction costs coming in at 17.9 million pound sterling. The warehouse covered a total of 28,000 square meters and was operational by September 1998, after the initial fire occurred in October 1997.
