DDC reports record 4th-quarter earnings

Article Abstract:

Detroit Diesel Corp has reported a 4% increase over 1997 revenues to $2.3 billion in revenues for the FY ended on Dec 31, 1998. The overall financial performance of the company was attributed by its chairman, Roger Penske, to a strong 4th qtr 1998 performance. Robust demand for the company's Series 60 engine shipments were offset by anticipated reductions in two-cycle and automotive engine deliveries during the year, while Penske noted that a focus on operations improvements not only contributed to excellent earnings but had also laid the foundation for further improvements.

Interest by Wall Street benefits mom-and-pops

Article Abstract:

Sweeping consolidation in the highly fragmented marina industry has not occurred as predicted in the mid-1990s, yet Wall Street investors have not lost their interest in the market. Marinas remain a cottage industry populated largely by 'mom-and-pop' operators, and this fact has led some high profile institutional investors to focus on roll-up opportunities. Furthermore, many factors continue to favor a consolidation by one or more of the industry's leading operators.
