Excell in joint call center venture with Telstra

Article Abstract:

Excell Global Services, a San Francisco, CA-based call center solutions company, has teamed with Telstra Corporation in June 1998 to create a teleservices company in Australia. The joint venture, called Stellar Call Centers Pty Limited, will initially capitalize on businesses in the government, finance, travel, telecommunications and utilities sectors. It plans to eventually target businesses in the Asia-Pacific region. Excell has chosen to join Telstra in order to assure a strong foothold in the Australian market. On Telstra's part, the joint venture will give it the opportunity to enter the teleservices sector.

West withdraws buyback proposal, stays public

Article Abstract:

West Teleservices Corporation shareholders Gary L. West, Mary E. West and Troy L. Eaden have decided to cancel their proposal to purchase the remaining 15% of outstanding shares of the firm's common stock not currently owned by the group. The shareholders decided to withdraw their bid after a special committee, appointed by the firm's board of directors, stated that they will not be able to recommend the group's final proposal of $15.50 per share. The final bid represented a premium of about 26% over the closing market price of company's common stock on July 15, 1998.

Access moves call center to MD

Article Abstract:

Access Worldwide has transferred its multicultural call center from Arlington, VA, to Hyattsville, MD. The call center has a workforce of 500 people, majority of whom are African Americans, Hispanics or Asians, who specialize in multilingual services. The 24,000-sq-ft facility can contact 20,000 households daily for inbound and outbound calls. Access Worldwide is a marketing services company focusing on the pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and financial services industries.
