OMC struggles to stay viable

Article Abstract:

Outboard Marine Corp (OMC) announced in Dec 2000 that it is slashing 1,000 jobs to help the boat maker surmount its financial problems. OMC also retained the services of investment banker Houlihan, Howard & Zukin to search for other strategic alternatives. These include the sale of the company or any of its specific parts or reorganization under bankruptcy protection. OMC added that it is willing to take further steps if the initial layoffs do not improve operating performance.
