Pension scheme pitfalls become gaping chasms

Article Abstract:

UK pension law reform due to the Robert Maxwell affair and EC (European Community) changes will result in the demise of defined benefit pension schemes. The EC remains undecided on the age of retirement for men and women. If they retire equally at the ages of 60 years the cost of salary-linked pensions could rise by as much as 50% resulting in many company liquidations. Companies and employees cannot afford the extra expenditure. Personal risks to pension scheme trustees will be extremely high. The Deficiency Measures 1992 whch came into effect on Jul 1 1992 has also contributed to uncertainty.

Health and safety legislation trashed by six pack

Article Abstract:

Six main European Community health and safety regulations came into force on Jan 1, 1993 which are likely to create a boom industry in the health and safety sector. The regulations have been criticised for being bureaucratic. Employers will need to: identify and note all potential hazards for their employees; ascertain what kind of injuries the hazards would cause; decide on the working conditions which would prevent such injuries occurring and maintain these conditions.

Getting architects on board

Article Abstract:

Architects should be encouraged to have an understanding of all construction project goals other than those just involving their own designs. The architect should learn to be more flexible in projects, become team players and respect the objectives of construction management. Greater efficiency on construction projects would be achieved if the architect's attitude were to change.
