Proposed code threatens Australian e-commerce

Article Abstract:

The Australian Direct Marketing Assn (ADMA) denounced the Australian government's introduction of tough electronic-commerce regulations as a blow against the competitiveness of Australian companies. The ADMA is particularly critical of a proposal to require online marketers to first secure the customer's permission. The assn said the draft regulations are even more strict than current world standards, thereby putting Australian businesses at a disadvantage compared to countries which only meet the minimum criteria.
