FTC investigates Yahoo, Amazon.com

Article Abstract:

The FTC is investigating the online information gathering practices of Santa Clara, CA-based Yahoo Inc and Seattle, WA-based Amazon.com Inc. Both companies are among the many Internet companies already being subjected to a similar inquiry by the FTC. Amzon.com is being investigated for its practice of using computer technology to monitor and assess consumers' behavior over the Internet.

Delia's hit with three class action suits

Generation Y merchandiser Delia's Inc of New York is facing three class- action suit for its alleged failure to disclose its earnings performance in the 1st qtr FY98. The suits were filed on behalf of stockholders by law firms Stull, Stull and Brody of New York; Schatz and Nobel PC of Hartford, CT; and Weiss and Yourman of New York. The company denied all the charges and said it will defend itself in court.

RealNetworks' privacy breach forces software change

Article Abstract:

RealNetworks Inc, based in Seattle, WA, publicly apologized for its invasion of consumer privacy through its RealJukebox software and has issued a software fix that can be downloaded via the Internet to fix the problem. The company admitted wrongdoing with its RealJukebox software application that allowed it to collect data on people's listening habits. To correct the problem, RealNetworks created a program that will prevent it from tracking and sending personal data.
