Signed lease doesn't ensure marina's future

Article Abstract:

Fort Lauderdale's Dry Marina has been offered a 10-year lease by the Broward County Commission for its 3.1-acre site in Port Everglades. However, the marina's future is far from being rosy since the county commission plans to close the marina when its lease expires by 1999 to give to port development. A railway would be constructed on the marina to accomodate freight from ships to railway cars. Dry Marina Mgr Tom Jarkesy says the port development plan would lead to a shortage of dry-stack slips in Fort Lauderdale since it is the marina that is nearest to the ocean.
