The Millenium issue

Article Abstract:

The Millenium bug affects equipment with embedded chips, which can include security systems and lifts as well as PCs. While the problems are being corrected in the computer industry, the telecoms market is lagging behind. The two main areas which could be affected by the Millenium Bug are embedded systems and software. Problems can occur if telephone systems are interfaced with other systems, such as voice-mail, hotel management packages and call logging. Advice on checking compliancy of telecoms equipment is included.

Among the recent changes which may affect service choice are the proposed alliance between market leader BT, America's AT&T and Concert PLC.
