Article Abstract:

Research in tropical rain forests can help to improve logging practices. The South-East Asia Rainforest Program has received an additional five years funding from the Royal Society, which should help the program to attract funding from elsewhere. The project focuses on forests in Indonesia and Malaysia. The medium-sized trees in rainforests may be more important than was realized, in fostering regeneration through protecting saplings from drought. Floods are also worthy of further research.
