Analysing interaction effects on MRP implementation using ACE

Article Abstract:

The significance of interactions among individual determinant variables affecting MRP implementation outcome is analyzed. Alternating conditional expectations (ACE), a powerful statistical method, was employed to maximize the model fit and to uncover underlying non-linear relationship between implementation success and its determinant variables. The final ACE model suggests that interaction effects are significant in affecting MRP implementation outcome. The interpretations of analytic transformation provided new insights and have important implications for MRP users and managers.

Lot-bucket MRP

Article Abstract:

An alternative representation for MRP called lot-bucket MRP or LMRP which is based on fixed lot sized generated in variable-length time slots is presented. The system is in contrast to the classical time-bucket MRP, designated TMRP. A comparison of the two methods reveal that they are equivalent and that planning of fixed-size lots has some benefits. The introduction of LMRP is predicted to meet with practical obstacles.

Complexity and uncertainty of materials procurement in assembly situations

Article Abstract:

The framework is developed to study the difficulty of procuring materials from outside suppliers. Application of the framework to five companies provided factors which should be considered when designing procurement control procedures. It is shown that company size and types of materials being ordered affect procurement activities with smaller firms experiencing difficulty in negotiating favorable deals with suppliers.
