Tehnological Diffusion and National Policy

Article Abstract:

The process of diffusion - the adoption of technological innovations - is an important factor in increasing productivity and helping the United States out of its present economic difficulties. Technological diffusion can be promoted through government programs. In the past, such programs have not been given enough attention. The Japanese put a great deal of emphasis on monitoring technological developments around the world and using them where appropriate. The United States government, industry and universities have to increase their awareness of technical developments abroad and to increase communication inside the country. Tables are included.

The advances made from the Apollo program were not followed up, but the United States aggressively pursued commercial applications.
