Subsurface strategies

Article Abstract:

Many underground gasoline storage tanks have been unprotected in low pH, high-moisture soil for 15 to 20 years and will or already have developed leaks due to corrosion. Loss of product detected on inventory control sheets and increased water content of gasoline are both indications that a leak may be present. Once the presence of a leak has been established, it is essential to either repair the tank by installing a new lining or replace it with a new steel or fiberglass, corrosion-resistant tank.

A model of intertemporal emission trading, banking, and borrowing

Article Abstract:

An intertemporal, continuous-time model of emission trading, banking and borrowing is presented. The decentralized behavior of companies is shown to lead to the least-cost solution attainable under joint-cost minimization using optimal-control theory. Explicit solutions for the time paths of emissions and permit prices are seen when companies are permitted to bank and borrow and when companies are only permitted to bank emission permits.
