Composting animal mortalities in North Carolina

Article Abstract:

North Carolina State University is researching economical and environmentally friendly methods for composting poultry and livestock carcasses, a need driven largely by the animal losses produced by Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Swine composting, however, provides specific difficulties due to the heaviness of their bones and the thickness of their fat and hides.
