Composting economics for landscapers

Article Abstract:

A $56,500 start-up investment for a composting facility was proposed by Greenleaf Compost Farm as an alternative waste management technique. Greenleaf has successfully and economically managed the project, satisfying the municipality and area residents. The maximum contribution came from capital investments equal to 62%. The landscape contractor generated 45% of the total tree and brush trimming volume.

Boosting backyard composting

Article Abstract:

The endeavour to encourage the practice of home composting in terms of landfill diversion is a recent phenomenon. One of the most significant parts of the national home composting strategy of the Composting Council in 1993, is devising a training program and educational materials for local governments, cooperative extension, community activists and other educators.

Adding coal ash to the composting mix

Article Abstract:

A Washington State University composting program provided insight on the utility of adding coal ash to compost piles in attaining a final composted product of good nutrient value. Compost and coal ash mixes, which are easy to store and apply, are good soil enhancers for use in farm lands.
