Getting students and teachers involved with recycling

Article Abstract:

Recycling and diversion company, Eco-Cycle, has been running school recycling programs for almost ten years. The nonprofit-making group started its school activities in 1988 when it collected white paper from local schools in Boulder, Colorado. Eco-Cycle now collects glass, aluminium, steel, plastic, newspaper and card board, totalling 263 tons in 1996 alone. The organisation offers educational presentations, special events and competitions.

Kids for Composting on the Oneida Nation Reservation

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on the Kids for Composting program launched by the Oneida Elementary School on Wisconsin's Oneida Nation Reservation. Composting materials are collected from the school's cafeteria, and are then sorted by students into outdoor piles and plastic drums. The compost is used for community gardens.

Pushing the three R's in Nova Scotia schools

Schoolchildren in Nova Scotia, taking part in the Eco-Schools Program, are being encouraged to reduce, reuse and recycle all their waste material. The program's main aim is to ensure that nothing is thrown away that could be reused.
