Strategic use of land application

Article Abstract:

Columbus, OH, has a different manner of sludge management. The method of injecting sludge directly into the soil is more advantageous because it gives such benefits as inconspicuousness of sludge and elimination of odor problems and worries about runoffs in the rainy season. Individuals involved in the program are given free supplements like lime, biosolid nutrients and tillage from the injection process itself. Biosolid injection is best done during the dry season while sludge releases nutrients during the wet season, when plants are ready for these benefits. It is also relatively safer to use than other chemicals.

Mastermind of the MRF

Article Abstract:

Peter Karter realized there had to be value in all the waste accumulating and set up Resource Recovery Systems (RRS) with the help of a few associates in 1975. They created the first materials recovery facility (MRF) in Branford, CT where waste products are recycled to produce marketable products. Success of the products depends on their high quality and freedom from contaminants.
