Records were meant to be broken: Autumn auctions offered both historic sales and bargains

Article Abstract:

The autumn wine auctions observed records being broken with old, rare Burgundies bought for a record $24.7 million at Acker Merrall & Condit's auction in October 2006 and NYWinesChristie's Los Angeles auction on September 28, 2006, thus witnessing the highest prices paid for a case of wine anywhere. However, bargains were also available as four cases of Haur-Brion 1989 could be bought at Aulden Cellars-Sotheby's for prices that ranged from $8,963 to $9,560, slightly below the index average.

Third quarter gains nearly double previous results

Article Abstract:

California wines drew 28% higher prices at auction during the third quarter of 1997. An influx of rare-vintage consignments, combined with shortages of collectible wines worldwide, created a bidding frenzy. The 1961 and 1989 vintages performed exceptionally well, with 19% and 15% gains, respectively.
