The Zachys-Christie's auction garnered $2,118,000, a record for US wine auctions. Many of the high-selling items were large-format bottles and exceptional vintage case lots. Competitive bidding drove the prices up.

World record set at Millennial auction

Article Abstract:

The wine collection of a Norwegian businessman, totalling 48,000 bottles, sold for $14.4 million in November 1999 at Sotheby's in New York, NY. $20,700 was paid for a bottle of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1811.
