Best practices in managing organized delivery systems

Article Abstract:

The US Department of Veterans Affairs is restructuring to provide integrated health care through 22 networks. There are several barriers in the system that will cause it some difficulty as it tries to become a community-based healthcare system. Experimentation will be necessary to change the system for the better as direction is provided by the Health Systems Integration Study.

Visionary leadership and the future of VA health system

Article Abstract:

The change to Veterans Integrated Service Networks from the US Department of Veterans Affairs will need new and better management than has previously been available. Visionary leadership will be required for the department to operate in the future and handle the challenges. Four different possible futures for the organization, including elimination, are presented.

Organizational culture: the critical link between strategy and results

Article Abstract:

The US Department of Veterans Affairs must restructure from a rigid organization to a flexible, more efficient, patient-focused operation. The change will not be easy. The department is bureaucratic and does not encourage change. Team leadership, new human resources operations and new work schemes must be developed to implement change.
