Secondhand tobacco smoke in public places in Latin America, 2002-2003

Article Abstract:

The secondhand smoke concentrations in public places in the capital cities of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay in conjunction with the Smoke-Free Americas Initiative are assessed. The finding of airborne nicotine in critical locations in Latin America provides a basis for enforcing smoke-free initiatives and for strengthening the protection of public from unwanted exposure to secondhand smoke.

What cannot be said on television about health care

Article Abstract:

Americans are beginning to be skeptical about whether new health care technologies are better and the list of drugs and technologies for which new might not be better is expanding rapidly. The evolution in what could be said on TV regarding the U.S. health care system confirms and reinforces that there is an important change occurring among Americans.

Respiratory symptoms, pulmonary function, and markers of inflammation among bar workers before and after a legislative ban on smoking in public places

Article Abstract:

The association of smoke-free legislation with symptoms, pulmonary function and markers of inflammation of bar workers is investigated. The results have shown that smoke-free legislation is associated with significant early improvements in symptoms, spirometry measurements and systemic inflammation of bar workers.
