Selecting compression hosiery

Article Abstract:

Patients who have the opportunity to select their own compression hosiery are more likely to find it comfortable and to wear it regularly. It is important that nurses working with patients who require compression hosiery take care to order the right size and to teach patients the correct fitting technique. Both legs should be measured, and measuring should take place first thing in the morning or soon after compression bandaging has been removed. Patients should receive an educational leaflet to reinforce verbal advice.

Comparative benefits

Article Abstract:

A study has revealed that Improved Formulation Granuflex dressings are more cost-effective for treatment of leg ulcers than Granuflex E dressings. The hydrocolloid dressings were tested on a random sample of patients. Ulcers were measured every two weeks. Dressings were changed at least weekly. About 1,000 treatment visits were made. Leakage occurred more often with Granuflex E dressings resulting in more treatment visits. Healing was faster with Improved Formulation Granuflex.
