Article Abstract:

The nursing profession is looking for leaders who can motivate their colleagues, manage change and maintain a high level of service. The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) has been made part of two new courses for nurses in Bradford, England. Some of the students on the MSc in Advanced Nursing Practice and MSc in Advanced Midwifery took part in a LPI initiative. Each student was observed in the workplace by four colleagues who then reported their findings, via telephone interviews, to another student on the course. Each student received a report.

New line on mental health care

Article Abstract:

Rochdale Healthcare NHS Trust has been operating its Mental Health Support Line since Dec 1996. This offers 24-hour telephone support for people who have been assessed as having severe and long-lasting mental health difficulties and who receive complex aftercare from Rochdale Healthcare NHS Trust. A three-month evaluation of the service indicated that it was effectively targeting the service gap it had been designed to fill. A 12-month evaluation will include a survey of the 158 people who are eligible to use the service.
