Article Abstract:

There are considerable opportunities for foreign television programme distributors in Latin America, where rapid changes in the cable and satellite sectors are likely to prompt significant changes in television viewing habits. Some observers point out that the television broadcasting in the region has become much more sophisticated over recent years, and this is a valid reason for being optimistic about future growth. New channels will only be successful if they have high quality programming which meets the demands of the emerging Latin American middle classes.

Article Abstract:

UK television comedy programmes (sitcoms) are declining in popularity during the late 1990s, with only a handful attracting decent viewing figures. The UK's top rated 14 sitcoms are all classified as old series, which are being repeated in an attempt to attract viewers. Sitcoms are having to compete against innovative programmes, such as documentary-soaps, which are based on factual programming. Sitcoms also need time to attract a regular following, resulting in the need for a second series.

Article Abstract:

Natural history film-making has been very successful in making ordinary people more aware of the world around them. However, the time has now come to take a close look at the genre and to assess where changes may be appropriate. In many cases, producers focus on the familiar formula which has proved very popular, and are unwilling to take risks. It is now time to find new ways to make people aware of the dangers which are faced by the natural environment.
