Media coverage of the Gulf crisis: a survey of correspondance

Article Abstract:

The professional, political and organizational factors which influenced the Gulf crisis press coverage were analyzed. Data was obtained from foreign correspondents reporting the Gulf crisis from Aug 2, 1990 to Jan 16, 1991. Findings show that majority of the correspondents were relatively young, did not speak the Arabic language and of American-European nationalities. These findings indicate that the correspondents who were unfamiliar with the region's issues and problems tend to be less than balanced and enlightened.

Indications of change; developments in Swedish media 1980-1990

Article Abstract:

The Swedish public has increased its influence on Swedish mass media during the 1980s. The media have undergone an increased privatization and programming has become more diverse, both in terms of content, where a more global perspective is evident, and in variety of providers. Privatization has meant a greater independence from traditional government links, increased localization of program production, and more susceptibility to economic factors.
