Article Abstract:

Government requests for the news media to follow government requests regarding the coverage of the war on terrorism and related topics may meet with controversy. For example, requests to edit videos of Osama Bin Laden may have no effect on his appeal to other criminal minds, and requests to suppress information about the whereabouts of Prime Minister Tony Blair will not likely have any significant impact on his safety. Thus, the government's calls for action may weaken its credibility just when it needs to be strongest.

Article Abstract:

This is not the first time Robert Kilroy-Silk has expressed his views but what is surprising is his suspension this time. If he would have commented against any American community, he would have lost his job by now. In view of this, BBC banning its staff from writing columns outside looks like a sensible decision.
